How the Service Works
Our contraception service allows individuals to have a confidential consultation with a pharmacist at Rex Pharmacy. During this consultation, we will work with you to reach a shared decision on the most appropriate form of oral contraception, whether you are initiating contraception for the first time or continuing with your current prescription.
Eligibility and Access
The NHS Pharmacy Contraception Service is available to:
- Individuals seeking to start oral contraception.
- Individuals seeking ongoing supplies of their current oral contraception.
Eligibility criteria include:
- Combined Oral Contraceptive (COC): Available from menarche up to and including 49 years of age.
- Progestogen Only Pill (POP): Available from menarche up to and including 54 years of age.
You do not need to be registered with a GP to access our service. If you choose, we can inform your GP practice that you have accessed our service, ensuring continuity of care.
How to Access the Service
You can access our service in several ways:
- Self-Referral: Simply book an appointment at Rex Pharmacy.
- Referral from GP or Sexual Health Clinic: Your healthcare provider can refer you to our service.
- Pharmacy Identification: Our pharmacists may identify suitable candidates for the service and offer it to you.
